Hon: Colonial Secretary,

re Dangerous drugs.

I have to report the seizure today on French Lail S/S Angers of 8200 ounces of heroin Hydrochloride contained in 7 trunks belonging to a Japanese by name Yonejiro Tanaka, holding passport No. 706 issued by the Acting Consul General of Japan at Shanghai on February 17th this year for France on business, and endorsed by H.B.M. Consul at Shanghai on 1st June. The trunks were bonded by the Swiss Customs on 24/7 at urich through to Marseilles. They bear the P.L.M. Railway bassage depot label No. 9082 dated 27/7. On the outside of the trunks are the labels of the following hotels, Hotel National, Hotel St Gothard, Baur au Lac. The passport is stamped on 16/7 at Dübendorf Switzerland. Tanaka has been detained and will be charged. The trunks were labelled for Kobe by the ship, but the information I received pointed to, the fact that the goods were intended for Shanghai.

Secretary of State should be informed by cable giving the details, as this appears to be a very important capture.

Superintendent of Imports & Exports.
